Prepping for your wedding day

Getting ready for your Big Day

Weddings! So much to do and organise. We see many clients in the lead-up to their big day as they get themselves buffed and pampered to look at their best. However, many aren’t aware of the best order in which to conduct these grooming rituals so we’ve put together a helpful countdown calendar to take some of the stress away.

8-10 weeks out:

This is the time to be looking at skin treatments (definitely DO NOT have a one-off facial the week before your wedding, unless it is part of a treatment series and the therapist understands you have a big day coming up).

For those that don’t have regular skin treatments – the first one or two may actually cause your skin to break out – this is normally the result of exfoliation starting to bring any congestion out form the upper dermis of the skin. Having a treatment series which commences approx. 8 weeks or so out form your wedding leaves ample time to get your skin in tip top shape so that it is healthy, clear and radiant on the day.

4-6 Weeks Out

Spray Tanning. Having a practice spray tan means no surprises or spray tan disasters on the day. To ensure wedding photos look their best, we recommend a really natural tan for the wedding day – nothing too over the top (photos will look better). When booking in a practice spray tan we recommend you take the following into consideration:

  • Let the salon know the spray tan is a practice run for your wedding
  • Advise them of the wedding date as well as the preferred date for the practice tan
  • Where possible, make sure that the same therapist is available for both spray tan treatments
  • Ask the salon how experienced the therapist is with spray tanning
  • Look for a salon that has a good name spray tan product (I can personally recommend Moroccan Tan, Naked Tan & Black Magic).
  • Ensure that the therapist includes the colour and depth of application in your client notes, once you’ve had your trial run.

Make-up. It’s a good idea to do a practice make-up run as well. Ask your make-up artist to do a colour match, so that you can work out what colours make you feel and look your best. If you plan to do your own make-up on the day, having a practice application will give you an opportunity to ensure you have the products you need. A good make-up artist will also be able to give you some application tips and techniques too.

The week before

Waxing: The best time to have waxing done is 3-6 days before the event. More than enough time for any redness to disappear (especially if you’re a first time waxer), but close enough to ensure a hair free body on wedding day.

1-3 Days Out

Wedding Spray Tan. Now is the time to have your spray tan for the wedding day. We recommend that you always have your waxing done at least 24 hours before your spray tan. It’s important that you give yourself 24 hours before the wedding for your tan to fully develop. And because it will no doubt be extremely busy in the day leading up to the wedding, it might be easier to come in a couple of days beforehand.

1-2 Days Out

Manicure & Pedicure. You can get your manicure or pedicure done before or after your spray tan. Just be mindful of the following:

  • If having it done before your spray tan, make sure you allow enough time to shower away any cuticle oils or moisturisers that may have been applied during the manicure or pedicure treatment
  • If having them done after your spray tan, leave a 24-hour window for your tan to fully develop. Also steer clear of any manicure or pedicure treatment that use exfoliants on your hands or legs as this may decrease the longevity and evenness of your spray tan.
  • Generally we recommend leaving your manicure especially until the day before the wedding as this will provide the shortest window in which it might chip.
